Since the launch of the LIFE programme by the European Commission in 1992, a total of 21 projects have been co-financed in Malta. Of these, two focus on environmental innovation, six on nature conservation and biodiversity, three on information and communication, one on technical assistance (towards an integrated framework in support of the implementation of Malta's second River Basin Management Plan), one on capacity building (increasing Malta's participation in LIFE) and eight on the development of environment policy and action programmes under the LIFE II Third countries strand.
These projects represent a total investment of €18 million, of which €9.5 million has been contributed by the European Union.
